EXCITEMENT ABOUNDS AFTER WEATHER
STOPS SHOW!
The May 30th Spring Championship races at Merritt Speedway were lost to weather as rain through the week and early Saturday afternoon “damped” the racing surface. However, track owners, Rick and Rod Ancel spent about 6 hours with some of the speedways key personnel and would like to announce an exciting two weeks of events.
First, on Saturday June 6th will be the “Race to Cure Tuberous Sclerosis”. This race evolved because of a chance meeting between a man with a big heart, and an eleven year old girl, Cheyenne Gibson of Traverse City, who has Tuberous Sclerosis. He chose to make a difference, and help raise awareness, when he was asked if he could put the “Tackling TS” logo on his 2008 race car. He also made the choice to help put the “Race to Cure Tuberous Sclerosis” event together! Thanks Rail Rokos! Tuberous sclerosis is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form in many different organs, primarily in the brain, eyes, heart, kidney, skin and lungs. Door Prizes, Silent Auction for adults, Silent Auction for kids only, Bid on a ride with your favorite driver and lots of other great items, 50/50 drawing and the best racing at Michigan’s most award winning track. All are invited to come to the “Race to Cure Tuberous Sclerosis” event. Donate items for prizes and drawings or sponsor a lap. Also, WKLT 97.5 & 98.9 FM will have Nascar Steve’s “Fantasy Racing League”, “Night at the Speedway”, where members will be treated to a full night of racing with the Spring Championships and an invitational event for both the Jimmy’s Collision Repair Center Factory Stocks and Sportsman Classes.
Second, on Wednesday June 10th will be the 3rd Annual “WHO 55”, this award winning event, the richest dirt track race in Michigan, consist of a “Race of Champions”, Pro-Truck racing and a 55 green lap Super Late Model feature with drivers from all over the Mid West.
Third, on Saturday June 13th, will be the USA Autocross Derby, much of the charm of this event is the local flavor. Many of the talented drivers performing in this event come from the surrounding communities. Many of the cars at center stage in this competition come from nearby dealers’ lots, salvage yards and the streets of the local towns. Come see these drivers, with their pit crews who build the competitive, rock hard, gladiator cars to do battle within the arena. If you want to see come gut-level competition with automobiles, come out and take in our show. If you need a lot more excitement in your life, we welcome you to become a part of the competition yourself. So visit www.merritt-speedway.com and www.usademoderby.com for all the details.
