Top-notch, competitive racing happens at Merritt Speedway every Saturday night. The 3/8-mile clay surfaced track is home to the area's top drivers. More than 150 drivers compete at Merritt Speedway each and every Saturday night from May until September. Merritt Speedway hosts several classes including Late Model, Stock 4 Cyl., Pro Truck, Michigan Modified, Theme Bee's and Modified 4 Cyl.

Short tracks like Merritt Speedway are the backbone of the sport and provide the rugged proving ground for drivers. Almost every major racing champion can trace his beginning to the rough and tumble racing at a local track. Nationwide Series veteran, Tim Fedewa, began his racing career on the dirt track of Merritt Speedway.

Short track racing is among the most entertaining motor sport because it concentrates the action in a small area. Cars run in traffic all the time, the room is limited, and the events are short. A driver can't wait or think too long about strategy. He has to move now!

Merritt Speedway began in 1968 when local farmer, Gene Kregear, decided to turn his "back 40" into a racetrack. When he started the track, Gene didn't know it would develop into one of the most prestigious dirt tracks in the state. He just wanted to have a little fun on Saturday nights.

Several times during the season, Merritt Speedway will host special events like the Who 55, Wood Tic 100, Fourth of July fireworks, Night of Distruction and Sprints on Dirt.
